Biographical
Born and raised in New York City, Roy Goldfinger has been engaged in the practice of law for over 30 years.
He received his B.A. from Harvard in 1971, and his Juris Doctor degree from NYU School of Law in 1975.
His first bar admission was to the State of New York in 1976, followed by the State of Ohio in 1980, the State of Florida in 1981, and the State of Alabama in 1985.
Mr. Goldfinger received the bulk of his training in bond finance law at the Wall Street offices of Hawkins, Delafield & Wood from 1977 to 1980, and at the Cleveland offices of Squire, Sanders & Dempsey from 1980 to 1985, when he relocated to Alabama. Mr. Goldfinger has been a sole practitioner since 1995.
For over ten years, Mr. Goldfinger has been a member of the Montgomery Area Committee of 100, an economic development-oriented branch of the Chamber of Commerce. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of Agudath Israel-Etz Ahayem Synagogue. His interests and hobbies include reading, movies, community theater and swimming.
Recent Transactions
Mr. Goldfinger recently represented a municipal Industrial Development Board before the State Industrial Development Authority (SIDA) and, in consideration of a qualifying private company’s capital investment in Board-owned property, obtained a grant of $150,000.00, all of which went to that company to reimburse their site-related investment costs. Since 2005, Mr. Goldfinger has been responsible for securing over $1.8 million in such grants for over 20 different companies.
In September 2009, Mr. Goldfinger served as bond counsel on a $62,770,000 bond issue, of which $14,590,000 was issued on a federally tax-exempt basis, while the remaining $48,180,000 was issued as Build America Bonds (BABS) — the first such transaction closed in the State of Alabama.
Whether a new electrical system performed significant additional functions, when compared with the system it was being installed in place of, was an issue Mr. Goldfinger recently took before the Alabama Department of Revenue (ADOR). Based on the detailed, technical comparisons which he helped his client to fashion, Mr. Goldfinger succeeded in securing for them substantial abatements of property and sales taxes, for an estimated total savings of over $1 million over the term of those abatements.
The transactions described above are not a guarantee or indication of future results on other similar transactions. Every matter is different, and must be analyzed and evaluated on its own facts and circumstances as they apply to the law.
